Letter Expressing Support for Delta Workers

Dear Representative:

I am writing today on behalf of the 60 affiliated unions of the AFL-CIO to ask that you join your colleagues in signing on to a letter in support of the workers at Delta Airlines, who deserve a free and fair choice to join a union. The letter is led by Representatives Mark Pocan (D-WI), Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Donald Norcross (D-NJ) and urges the CEO of Delta to adopt a neutrality agreement pledging not to interfere with the workers’ choice whether or not to vote for the union.

In 2022, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA-CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) began a coordinated effort to support the workers at Delta who decided to seek union recognition with one of the three unions. Unfortunately, Delta has a long history of using pressure tactics and intimidation to aggressively oppose its employees’ efforts to unionize.

When big corporations resort to union-busting tactics to deny its workers a free and fair choice to form a union, it is imperative for public officials to intervene and help protect them from the relentless threats, coercion and anti-union messaging that are typical in these anti-union campaigns and that Delta has employed in the past.

The Railway Labor Act guarantees the right of all workers to organize and bargain collectively with their employer, and it is unlawful for an employer to interfere with or coerce employees in the exercise of their rights. The Pocan-Dingell-Norcross letter simply urges Delta to live up to these obligations.

For all of these reasons, I urge you to join Rep. Pocan, Dingell and Norcross in support of Delta workers and their efforts to form a union. To sign the letter, please contact [email protected]. The deadline is February 9, 2024.

Sincerely,
William Samuel
